Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant (BBEPP) is an independent, state-of-the-art facility that operates from a laboratory level to a multi-ton scale. Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is a service provider for process development, scale-up and custom manufacturing of biobased products and processes. A wide and flexible spectrum of modular unit operations combined with the experience of their highly competent engineers and technicians enables them to translate biobased lab protocol into a viable industrial process.
Within ELLIPSE project, BBEPP will be involved in the optimisation of the fermentation and the purification steps followed by the scale-up of the PHA production.
Although PHA is a promising material for applications where biodegradability in different environments is needed, one of the market challenges is the higher cost of the materials, which is currently not competitive enough compared to standard and conventional plastics (PET, PP, PE, etc.). The ELLIPSE project will address the valorization of waste streams to produce cost-effective PHBV, which will allow reducing waste, creating value for the waste streams and reducing pollution and emissions.
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant will bring ELLIPSE a strong expertise in bioprocesses optimisation and scale-up, specifically of PHA production starting from waste streams, in order to go further in the cost-effectiveness and the TRL level of the Biotrend process.
