Towards a Sustainable Bioeconomy: MIXMATTERS Project Presentation

Today, we proudly present the MixMatters project!

Along with us and Brilian, MIXMATTERS has applied to the Horizon Results Booster to receive support in disseminating and valorising research results.

In the EU alone, the agrifood industry generates 113 million tons of organic waste annually. However, a shocking 75% of this waste ends up in landfills or incinerators, resulting in a massive loss of valuable resources.

MixMatters aims to establish and demonstrate an Integrated System for the separation and valorization of three different types of mixed bio-waste streams from the agri-food industry, even if they contain impurities such as plastic, cardboard, or metals.

The goal is to produce six valuable outputs: powder ingredients, sugar concentrates, recombinant proteins, green fibers, bioactive compounds, and plastic monomers.
