ELLIPSE is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the Bioeconomy Cluster, an innovation ecosystem based in Nitra, Slovakia, that connects research, industry and policy actors across bio-based value chains.
Established in 2015, Bioeconomy Cluster (BEC) is a pioneering innovation ecosystem based in Nitra, Slovakia, at the heart of the country’s agri-food sector. BEC serves as a dynamic interface between research, industry, and policy, facilitating knowledge and technology transfer across bio-based value chains.
Its mission is to catalyse sustainable innovation and drive the transition towards a circular, climate-resilient bioeconomy. BEC connects over 40 official members, including innovative SMEs, farmers, food companies and strategic partners. They are strong in agri-food and bioeconomy policy research, rural development research, cluster development and value chain development.
BEC is also an active member of the European Bioeconomy Clusters’ Alliance, connecting leading bioeconomy clusters across Europe.
BEC is nowadays implementing about 15 EU-funded projects related to bioeconomy, climate action and soil health. Along with farmers and research organisations, we are developing a first Soil Living Lab on regenerative agriculture in Slovakia. They are involved in building a national bioeconomy hub within the CEE2ACT project, involving industry, R&D and policy actors. Another relevant project where BEC is involved is BIO-INSPIRE, initiative funded by the CBE JU. The project aims to transform regional bioeconomies by providing tools to advance their bio-based research and innovation. This is achieved by mapping ecosystems, mobilizing clusters for synergies, and sharing relevant know-how through a Knowledge Transfer Strategy. The ultimate goal is to create a replication model for future clusters and generate evidence-based policy recommendations.
Within this collaboration, ELLIPSE and the Bioeconomy Cluster will support each other through joint social media campaigns, coordinated dissemination of projects materials across Cluster channels and communities, and the future organisation of events to engage practitioners, policy makers and researchers.
The Cluster defines itself as not just an alliance but a movement that transforms knowledge into practice, policy into action and innovation into impact, making it a strong partner to amplify ELLIPSE’s outreach and results.
Further updates on joint activities will follow on our channels and the Cluster’s platforms.
