ELLIPSE was presented at the SUSCHEME-SUSTENS2 Conference, held at the Royal Olympic Hotel in Athens, Greece, from 28 to 30 June 2026.
During the conference, Lidia Garrote Moral from CARTIF represented us within the Sustainability and Industrial Biotechnology session, contributing with both an oral presentation and a poster presentation.
The presentations highlighted ELLIPSE’s integrated circular approach to transforming heterogeneous waste streams into high-value bio-based products. In particular, they showcased the project’s progress in the optimisation of waste pre-treatment and acidogenic fermentation for the production of volatile fatty acids (VFAs), as well as the pilot-scale validation of these processes.
They also presented the conversion of VFAs into tailor-made PHB and PHBV biopolymers, together with nutrient recovery from digestate through hybrid microalgae cultivation and membrane technologies.
These advances support the development of innovative circular applications, including controlled-release fertilisers, biodegradable mulch films, rigid packaging and coated paper.
Participation in SUSCHEME-SUSTENS2 represented an important opportunity to share ELLIPSE’s latest results with the scientific and industrial biotechnology community, strengthening the project’s visibility and contributing to the wider discussion on sustainable bio-based innovation and circular value chains.
